Beef Tomatoes or beefsteak tomatoes are one of the largest varieties of cultivated tomatoes. The flesh is firm and meaty with a mild, sweet flavour with is ideal eaten raw in Italy, thickly sliced with olive oil, salt and pepper, buffalo mozzarella and torn fresh basil leaves. These can also be enjoyed in a variety of cooked recipes including in ratatouille, pasta sauces and beef stew as they have a low juice content.
Serve on top of a meaty steak as a substitute for any sauce. The flavour of the two is all you need.
